There is a movement in the west. No I’m not talking about the Western Sydney Wanderers and what the club as a whole has achieved thus far. I’m talking about something else. Something the Wanderers can only be considered as the catalyst for this movement.

There is no doubt that many in the greater western Sydney region are passionate football supporters. It's in the blood of generations spanning multiple decades. This history is well documented. Individually, these fans want to do more for the game they love, but do not have the outlet or resources to do so.

Collectively however, is a different story.

There are motions being passed and discussed on getting these passionate supporters of the game under one umbrella to collate their resources and various professional backgrounds for the benefit of all supporters of football in the western Sydney area.

The Western Sydney Wanderers Supporters Group aims to be a supporters group accessible and available to all fans of the Wanderers. The plan is to bring their collective heads together and provide a means for all supporters of the Wanderers to share their passion and love towards their club and create a real community of like minded football fans.

One aspect of their focus is to create supporters merchandise separate from the club that can help generate revenue that can go towards enhancing match day experiences and supporter’s activities for the vast majority of football and Western Sydney Wanderers fans.

The official goals of the Western Sydney Wanderers Supporters Group are to enhance the support of the Western Sydney Wanderers Football Club and raise the profile of football, at all levels, in Western Sydney.

What this means is, whilst primarily being a not-for-profit organisation for the supporters of the Wanderers in the A-League, W-League and National Youth League; the Supporters Group has sights on increasing the profile of football in the area by whatever means are available. Be it, school clinics, family picnic days etc

This is an extremely ambitious goal that the Supporters Group has set. But having met all of them through the creation of the Wanderers - as most have met each other - I know it is something that they all hold close to their hearts. These people live and breathe football. They come from all walks of life, are at different stages of their lives, working in various private and public sectors. What brought them together was the Wanderers, and now they want to go beyond mere season ticket holders. They want to create something special that others can reap the benefits of.

Because they love football, and want to see it be placed on the pedestal that it deserves to be in this country.
