Nike Australia and Football Federation Australia revealed the 2018 Australian National Team Collection on Thursday evening.
Both the Socceroos and the Matildas will proudly sport the new looks at key tournaments in Russia and Jordan later this year.
The new home kit pays homage to the epic coming of age football game for Australia in November 2005, when the Socceroos beat Uruguay to qualify for 2006’s tournament in Germany, the first time in 32 years.
“This was the battle cry that inspired vision and design of the 2018 Australian home kit,” said Nike Football Apparel Senior Design Director, Pete Hoppins.
Gold from top to bottom, the kit resembles a sea of gold with a rolling wave graphic that runs along the sleeve and shoulders, outlined in dark green. The green collar of the home kit is capped off with a green neck tape at the back that houses the Commonwealth Star.
The Matildas will be the first to wear the new home kit on April 8. “It’s our most important tournament of the year as it’ll decide if we head to France next year,” said Caitlin Foord.
The away kit plays further tribute to the national colours of green and gold, using all green for the design rather than the navy seen in previous kits since 2006.
The use of Volt Yellow on the shirt radiates a sense of speed and youth.
The 2018 Australian National Team Collection also includes a pre-match top, which is a Strike Green design with full-bleed speed blur, and training apparel in Aloe Verde Green. It will be available starting today, Friday April 6 at nike.com.au and selected retailers.
