The Reds jumped into second spot in their ACL group courtesy of the win, where McGowan netted United’s second goal early in the second half.

Meanwhile, Western Sydney Wanderers lost 3-2 at home to FC Seoul leaving them bottom of Group F and all but eliminated, while Brisbane Roar are goalless and last in Group E.

“Jeju are a very good team especially here in Korea and Australian teams have been struggling in the Champions League so it’s good for us to get three points,” McGowan told Fox Sports.

“(It’s) good for our fans because we’re struggling in the A-League but tonight we did really well and hopefully it gives us a chance to progress to the next stage.”

United’s next ACL opponents are Gamba Osaka, who lost 3-0 at Jiangu Suning on Tuesday night to drop into bottom spot in the group.

Yellow cards to McGowan and Riley McGree mean they’ll be unavailable for the Japan trip, where an Adelaide win could seal their place in the knockout stage.

“(We’ll prepare) The same as we prepare for this game,” McGowan said.

“We go into every game to win it, whether it’s home and away.

“Now we give ourselves a chance to go to Gamba and if we win … it gives us a really good chance to qualify.”
