Adelaide United coach Guillermo Amor still maintains full confidence the Reds can do the double after maintaining just one point in four games.
United fell 2-1 against Melbourne City away on Friday night and will need to bounce back against A-League minnows Central Coast next Sunday.
After the reigning champions found themselves dead last in the league after round eight last season, Amor was remaining positive.
“Our target is to be first, it’s always our goal," Amor said.
"Your goal for this season is to win, always to win, my goal is this moment is the same – to win every game and to win the competition, the league.
“This is long naturally. We want to win always, but the start is similar to last season, this is long and we must improve, learn things and I think our squad is a good squad, we have a very good team, good players, good squad.
“In four games we have one point, we’ve lost three, the first game in Newcastle was a draw, we could’ve won, but we drew. The other two I don’t want to speak about too much – Western Sydney and Melbourne Victory.”
Amor was also gracious in defeat to City after they found themselves trailing 2-0 and could only manage a consolation goal by Sergi Guardiola.
“Fair result, 2-1, it’s different, it’s different to 1-2,” he said.
“Our team is younger and the final of the game we’ve played with young players and this is the difference.
“We lose, so it’s OK, it’s annoying and disappointing for the result but it's football, today in a moment the last 15 – 20 – 25 minutes, we controlled the momentum of the game and the draw can arrive, but it didn’t.
“But I enjoyed, I enjoyed today the game, with my team, with our team, our players.”
A Bruno Fornaroli masterclass helped City over the line with an opening goal and a cheeky panenka penalty.
The message from the Barcelona legend was clear when asked about El Tuna.
“The players are our players,” Amor joked.
“The Adelaide players… Danny Choi, Jordan (Elsey), George (Mells), Maka (Jesse Makarounas) , Isai (Isaias)... the best players are from Adelaide.”
