Bobo’s signing took Sydney’s squad to 19 players, with Arnold adding Michael Zullo, Alex Wilkinson, Bernie Ibini and Josh Brillante this off-season.

It is understood the Sky Blues are close to completing a deal for NYL defender George Timotheou too.

“Bobo is the icing on the cake for Sydney FC in terms of recruitment,” Arnold said.

“We still have one or two positions available, but those two positions won’t be as big signings as Bobo.”

Sydney still has one visa position available, while another could open up if speculation on Serbian midfielder Milos Ninkovic’s proposed move to Qatari club Al Gharafa is true.

The Sky Blues, who are away to Perth Glory in the FFA Cup next week, knocked off Brisbane Roar 2-1 in a pre-season clash on Saturday, with goals from Matt Simon and Zullo.

Arnold said he was happy with Sydney’s progress in pre-season after last term’s underwhelming seventh place finish, stressing competition for places was key.

“So far so good,” he said. “It’s only pre-season, Brisbane were very strong.

“Matt Simon’s scored a fantastic goal and he’ll fight for his spot like the other 19-20 players.

“I want competition for places. We’ve got two quality players for each position, we’ve got some good experience in the team and that’s the only way you can drive players to success.

“That’s what we’re looking for.”

In light of Bobo’s marquee deal, Arnold also brushed off questions around Melbourne Victory’s proposed guest move for Italian Alessandro Diamanti which was controversially blocked by FFA.

“That’s not my domain,” Arnold said. “I just worry about Sydney FC and what we can do, that’s it.”

The Sky Blues mentor also hailed the return of Tim Cahill to Australia having been unveiled by Melbourne City last week.

“I think Timmy coming home, being the first time he’s played club football in Australia, is a fantastic signing for the A-League,” he said.

“It should and it will create a lot of publicity in around the country.

“The biggest bonus is Timmy is coming home hungry because he’s still got a lot of desire to play for the Socceroos.

“You look at the players around, we played Brisbane on Saturday, their new signing Kristiansen looks like a very good player.

“The foreign boys getting signed by all clubs are going t make our competition stronger and stronger.

“Bobo will be a fantastic signing not just for Sydney but the competition.”
