Cardiff City maintained their 100% start to the season as they overcame Wolves 2-1, in the top of the table affair. Bluebirds winger Nathaniel Mendez-Laing continued his great form in front of goal and was on hand to provide the winner for Neil Warnock’s men.

Aston Villa showed flashes of brilliance as they cruised to a 4-2 victory over Norwich City. Villa midfielder, Conor Hourihane grabbed a hat trick and was one of many star performers in Saturday’s encounter. With three teenagers in Villa’s starting line-up, Bruce may continue looking to youth as his side aim to address their recent below par performances.

Jackson Irvine’s, Burton Albion recorded their first win of the season as they defeated Birmingham 2-1 at the Pirelli Stadium. The result was enough to see Nigel Clough’s side lift themselves off the bottom of the table.

QPR's Idrissa Sylla

Surprise package, Ipswich Town secured a 2-0 win over a struggling Brentford outfit. Martyn Waghorn scored his fourth goal of the season as The Tractor Boys continued their perfect start to the campaign.

Elsewhere, a resilient QPR side fought back from a goal down to beat Hull City 2-1, thanks to a last gasp winner from R’s striker, Idrissa Sylla.

While the encounter at Ashton Gate featuring Socceroos’, Bailey Wright and James Meredith produced a 0-0 stalemate. Both teams failed to deliver on the day with the match unlikely to go down in the history books for either side.

Here is the best and worst from the latest round of Championship fixtures.

THE GOOD

Cardiff and Ipswich: Neck and neck at the top of the table

No one would have expected these sides to be the early front runners this campaign. Four games in and both outfits have four wins. With Cardiff edging Ipswich on goal difference at the top of the ladder, both Neil Warnock’s and Mick McCarthy’s men are overachieving.

With relatively less to spend than the bigger clubs in the league, these two experienced managers have found a style of play which ensures that their team can flourish and deliver on a weekly basis.

Crisis averted at Villa Park

Going into their clash with Norwich City, there were rumours regarding the future of Villains boss, Steve Bruce. The 56-year-old had come under increased scrutiny for his side’s poor displays in their opening fixtures.

Their win over The Canaries would have come as welcome relief for everyone at the club. Conor Hourihane’s man of the match performance showed promising signs for the Midlands outfit. They put four past Norwich despite the absence of their main goal scorer, Jonathan Kodjia, who’s currently sidelined with an injury.

THE BAD

The Cottagers – No longer a threat in front of goal

Winless after their first four Championship fixtures, Fulham went down 1-0 at home to Sheffield Wednesday. The Cottagers have only scored two goals in four games, a far cry from last year’s feat.

The West London side are recognised for their goal scoring ability, many placing them as early favourites to take out the Championship this season. If goals don’t start rolling in, then there may be cause for concern for Slavisa Jokanovic and his team.

Reading: A team in disarray

Four games in and The Royals are worse for wear. After a disappointing loss to Preston, Reading lie in 18th on the Championship table. Unable to get on the scoresheet in their fixture at Deepdale, The Royals are in need of an urgent wakeup call if they want to revive the form that got them so close to The Premier League in the previous campaign.

Millwall's Aiden O'Brien

THE UGLY

Relegation form: Bolton Wanderers and Millwall

Neither side have hit the season running since their return to the Championship this campaign. Winless in their first four encounters, they both occupy two of the three relegation spots along with Brentford.

Bolton were outclassed by Derby at home as they went down 2-1 from a David Nugent brace while Millwall were unlucky not to take all three points in their 0-0 stalemate with Bristol City. If the two sides want to have any hope of consolidating their place in the league, they need to start getting some points on the board.
