"Cirio was shockingly fouled by Western Sydney Wanderers defender, Jack Clisby in the opening 53 seconds of the Reds’ clash with last season’s runners-up," the club said.

"The forward attempted to play-on through his injury, however the damage caused by Clisby’s challenge was too significant for the Spaniard to continue and he was soon replaced.

"This comes only a few weeks after Cirio returned from a fibula fracture that he sustained in pre-season and could see him miss up to 10 weeks."

The Reds were left fuming by a couple of rash challenges from the Wanderers including what looked like a straight red infringement by substitute striker Brendon Santalab.

Santalab cut down James Holland but escaped with a yellow and went on to score the winner.
