Jason Geria has weighed in to the expansion debate and believes the addition of South Melbourne to the A-League would only benefit Australian football.
The Melbourne Victory fullback from Canberra is amazed the A-League is the only competition in the world without a team based in the capital city.
“There’s a few cities vying for a spot when it does happen, he said.
"I know South Melbourne are a massive club in the NPL and before the A-League, they were a huge club and have produced fantastic players.
“If they were to come in as another team in Melbourne, that’d only help the league. There’s plenty of space and three teams would be brilliant.
“(Potential South Melbourne coach) Roberto Carlos is someone I grew up watching and idolising.
"If he was to come and coach here, I know that would bring a lot of interest – a lot of fans would come through to those games and it would just build the league.”
Meanwhile Geria is focusing on get his own game right and trying to win over coach Ange Postecoglou to regain his spot in the Socceroos squad.
The Victory defender has just one Socceroos cap to his name after making his debut in Sydney with a 1-0 friendly win to Greece in June.
Geria admitted he had a “shaky” start to A-League season 2016/17 but feels he has come a long way with the team.
The Socceroos' right-back position is still yet to be filled - and to help Geria on his way to nailing that spot, his team-mates at Victory gave him a copy of Postecoglou’s book Changing the Game .
“I want to get back and involved in that setup, there’s no hiding the fact I really want to get back into that,” Geria said.
“But to get back involved I have to focus on playing for Melbourne Victory and performing week in and week out here… that’s the only way.

“If I have my mind set on getting back into the camps in March when they start back now, then I don’t think I can do anything to really help me so my focus is on the next game.
“When I took a step back and when back to basics, not overthinking things and taking things how they come and how I was doing in the past.
“Once I got down in a few games, my confidence and the teams grew as well. I think I’m back to playing how I really want to play.”
Victory lock horns with Central Coast Mariners on Wednesday night after training through the festive weekend.
Geria said the team was on a high, with the only disappointing performance coming in the Round 2 4-1 smashing by Melbourne City.
Victory’s only other loss was 2-1 to table-topping Sydney FC in Round 5.
“We’re in a good space right now," he said. "It started off a bit shaky but once we got composed and started believing in what we’re trying to do, the results followed.
"I think we’re playing some good football right now.
"It’s just about trying to build on that and progress even further because we know there’s improvement in us and we want to get better.”
