Melbourne City coach John van’t Schip believes Wednesday night's 4-1 win over Western Sydney Wanderers showed Tim Cahill and Bruno Fornaroli have no problems playing together.
Cahill played behind Fornaroli in the FFA Cup quarter-final win and both combined to score City’s second goal of the game.
The City boss said he was pleased with the pair but made it clear a title would arrive when the entire squad contributed.
“They can play together, that’s very clear, but again we have to work as a team and they need to be part of that team and they are part of that team,” Van’t Schip said.
“Two players that need to understand you can only win the Championship with a team and not with individuals, so they work very hard together.
“They played some good football together and they also gave each other an assist and a goal, so you can clearly see there’s a good understanding and also that they want to help each other on the pitch.”
Van’t Schip said he did not have a specific position set up for Cahill and would play him depending on the situation.

The Dutchman was also impressed with Michael Jakobsen, who scored on his competitive debut with a stunning bicycle kick just two minutes into game.
“We were surprised when we saw that, we thought it was Bruno,” he joked.
“It was a great goal for him of course starting like that in his debut, he’s only been here a bit more than a week.
“He’s really adapted himself in a quick way to the group during the training sessions and you can see he’s an experienced player and has a good left, for us he’s more important he was organising and taking care of the defence, I think he had a good game."
With the season opener just a fortnight away, Van’t Schip said he was on the hunt for more practice games to make sure his side were as prepared as possible.
“We want to play one or two (friendlies) still, so we have some planned for the coming 10 days we’ll try to play because we need to play games,” he said.
“That’s why it’s important we played a game at this level, that other games we need before the start of the season.
“That’s we’ll try to do, we’ll play a game against Auckland and we’re trying to get another game, otherwise we’ll get a game internal, so we’ll just see.”
The coach ruled out any concerns over newcomer Bruce Kamau who went down late in the game with cramps
