Leckie is in contention for a start on Friday after impressing as a 77th-minute substitute in last Saturday's 1-1 draw with VfB Stuttgart where he worked hard up front after Moenchengladbach were reduced to 10 men.

Moenchengladbach boss Lucien Favre is now facing a dilemma with number one striker Igor de Camargo battling a back injury, while the man who started in his place against Stuttgart, Raul Bobadilla, failed to impress.

As a result Leckie could be elevated to the starting line-up although the 20-year-old admitted Favre had a few options to choose from.

“That's the decision of the coach and he has many options,” Leckie told the club's website.

“If Igor can't play, it may well be that Raul Bobadilla who will replace him again. It could also be that Marco Reus who is pulled forward or I move into the starting eleven.

“We'll see what happens, there are still a few days, and I will respect the decision of the coach, no matter how it turns out at the end.”

On his debut against Stuttgart, Leckie continued: “Of course I was a bit nervous, after all, it was my first game and the stadium was almost sold out.

“But when I was on the pitch, the nervousness went away quickly. It was a great feeling and it was a lot of fun to play in front of so many fans.”

The former Adelaide United man, who was an unused sub in his side's opening weekend 1-0 win at Bayern Munich, also added he felt his decision to miss the Under-20 World Cup with the Young Socceroos had proven to be the right one.

“It was definitely the right decision because if I was away, I'd totally have lost my place in the team and here I can gain important experience," he said.

"For example, it was already a great experience to be with the squad for the 1-0 opening victory in Munich and witness everything.”
