A look at round three of the A-League Women season, where Western United went outright top of the table and Melbourne Victory finally got off the mark.
THEY SAID IT: "She doesn't look like a 16-year-old out there. As long as she keeps in those steps, I would be upset if she wasn't in the Matildas." - Melbourne City coach Dario Vidosic on teen sensation Daniela Galic, who impressed in the 3-0 win over Brisbane.
HOW GOOD: Life in the A-League Women is a dream for Western United. The newcomers sit top of the table with three wins from as many matches. They cranked things up to another level on Sunday, including scoring two dramatic late goals for a come-from-behind 2-1 win at Adelaide United.
THE MOMENT: Remy Siemsen has begun to make her case for World Cup selection with a beautiful goal for 10-woman Sydney FC in the first Sydney derby of the season. Siemsen's match-winner from just outside the box was her first goal since returning to the Sky Blues after a stint in Sweden and thwarted the Wanderers as they looked to pull off an upset.
WOMAN OF THE WEEK: Once a fringe player at Melbourne Victory, Emma Robers is thriving as a starter at Western United. She picked the perfect time to score her first ALW goal - and made it a memorable one. The ball spilled out to the midfielder outside the area and Robers put her left foot through it for a brilliant, fizzing long-range matchwinner.
TALKING POINT: The heat was oppressive in Melbourne on Saturday and Sunday. For a second consecutive week, Brisbane coach Garrath McPherson lamented an early kick-off, with the Roar playing City at 3pm in Casey Fields. Sunday's 4pm kick-off was even hotter, with Wellington youngster Alyssa Whinham forced off the Epping Stadium pitch after struggling with the heat.
WORLD CUP WATCH: Matildas youngster Bryleeh Henry scored her second goal in as many matches while Galic and industrious midfielder Leah Davidson impressed. Siemsen getting on the scoreboard helps her case too. Melbourne Victory coach Jeff Hopkins says winger Beattie Goad should be right in the mix.
WHAT'S NEXT:
On Saturday, City will look to join United on top of the table when they host the Jets. Winless pair Canberra and Wellington face off in the capital while Brisbane travel to take on Sydney.
On Sunday, Perth will eye their first win when they host Victory, while Adelaide will look to rebound when they travel to face the winless Wanderers.
United have a well-earned bye.
