Perth Glory coach Kenny Lowe has all but confirmed Socceroo Rhys Williams will start for the first time since early December when they face Adelaide United on Friday night.
Williams made a surprise return as a substitute last weekend after almost two months at loggerheads with Glory officials, where he came close to a transfer to Sydney FC.
Shane Lowry has been ruled out of the Adelaide clash with a quad injury, while Alex Grant’s foot injury has opened the door for a rare Williams’ start.
“I would imagine, unless you know we’ve got another centre-half,” Lowe said, when asked if Williams will start.
“Rhys came in in the last game and did well so I’m sure he’s looking forward to playing and enjoying himself.”
Lowe was optimistic Lowry’s injury would only keep him on the sidelines in the short term.
“We’re hoping it’s one (week),” Lowe said.
“He’s got a slight tear in his quad. It was knee on quad.
“Apparently the muscle got compressed against the bone.
“He’s responded really well to be truthful. He hasn’t trained so we’ll give him a week’s grace.”
