THEY SAID IT: "I don't think there's a player like him available for Australia. I don't see how the national team can look past him and Mark Birighitti" - Mariners boss Nick Montgomery on striker Jason Cummings' Socceroos prospects.

MAN OF THE WEEK:

Well, teenager of the week. Where there's young talent, there's hope. Newcastle's 17-year-old striker Archie Goodwin showed there was hope for the future with two well-taken goals in the Jets' 2-0 home win over Sydney FC. Western United's Adisu Bayew and Central Coast's Matt Hatch also scored in their respective wins.

BEAT THAT: There's late winners, then there's scoring in the 97th minute. Wellington's Nicholas Pennington did just that, popping up to deliver the Phoenix a 2-1 victory over Perth Glory.

STAT ATTACK: It was lucky No.13 for Jamie Maclaren, who scored his 13th goal of the season in his 19th game. He's eyeing his third golden boot on the bounce.

TALKING POINT: Maclaren copped an arguably unfair amount of criticism after Australia's loss to Japan for opting out of the Socceroos' clash with Saudi Arabia for his wedding, which has been rescheduled multiple times amid COVID-19. He played for Melbourne City on Saturday and scored the winner against Macarthur FC. The assist? It came from injured Socceroo and City teammate Mathew Leckie.

UNDER PRESSURE: A 2-0 loss to a decimated Newcastle has Sydney FC right at the bottom of the top six. With Wellington, Central Coast and Newcastle coming hard and a tight schedule coming up, it's not getting any easier for the Sky Blues.

UP NEXT: There are three games on Wednesday night. Perth host Newcastle, Sydney FC play Macarthur and Brisbane play Wellington.
