Spanish football outlet Sport is reporting Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta is interested in joining the A-League.
The surprising report comes in the wake of Iniesta's failed transfer to Chinese Super League outfit Chongqing Lifan, who issued a statement saying Iniesta would not join the club.
Iniesta has already announced he will leave Barcelona at the end of the season and said his next club would not play in Europe.
Although no specific A-League club has been linked, and few would likely meet his wage demands, Sport is reporting that the lifestyle in Australia would appeal to the 33-year-old.
“The Barça captain sees with good eyes the option of going to a country where family level would find much tranquility and in a league that is up , with the arrival of several European players," the report said.
"Alessandro del Piero was one of the last big names to play the championship, like David Villa, who did it for a few months at Melbourne City FC .
"The exoticism of China would change to a much more distant whereabouts, but with a lifestyle in which you could feel very comfortable.”
