The 17-year-old helped power NSW State League leaders Central Coast United to a 10-0 win over Wagga City Wanderers over the weekend.

Stewart was called up to the first-grade team on Saturday after netting three goals for his Under 18s side earlier in the day.

However, the debutant couldn’t have dreamed of firing in another three.

Post match he recalled the shock at being asked to play for the first team: “I was surprised, I didn’t even know I was going to play. I wasn’t even thinking I’d be called up for the Under 20s let alone first grade.

“I was really tired after the first game because it was such a hot day and I was ready to go home after having my shower.

“I was excited to play, but I was obviously nervous as I didn’t want to stuff up and two of my best mates and a few of my teammates were sticking around to watch me play."

After the Under 18s side put away Wagga City 7-1, it was left to Central Coast United Technical Director, Dean Heffernan, to inform the teen marksman he'd be sticking around.

Stewart is the top scorer for his Under 18s side putting away 18 goals over the season, however, he credits his teammates for his success and his recent promotion.

“I have a really good team around me so it isn’t hard to get the chances," he said. "But I think I’m playing well and want to continue scoring goals for my team.”

First-grade coach Stu Davis had coached the young attacker for two years in the Under 16s squad, making their pairing in the first grade an easy decision.

Stewart explained how it felt running onto the pitch in the 70th minute: “The game seemed to be dying down a bit, everyone felt we had the win. So, I decided to put a lot of pressure on.

“I always like to run around like a headless chicken and press the defenders a lot and I felt I put the defence on edge and a put a little more life into the game.”

The debutant believed he slotted in well adding: “I was pretty clinical that night, I only had four shots that game and I ended up converting three of them, one of them coming off the post.

“I had Alex Arbelo help me a lot, helping me understand the tactics of the game, and letting me know when I was out of position.

“I was happy. It’s always good to get a hat-trick.”

Despite scoring two hat-tricks Stewart said he isn't a certainty to feature for the first-grade team in their final game of the season where they could potentially clinch the NSW State League championship.

“I’d like to play of course but I’d be happy for the team if they felt they needed to do the job without me," he said. "I highly rate their chances, I just think they’re going to win it all.”
