Mooy was stretchered off the ground in Huddersfield's 4-1 win over Bournemouth on February 11 after sustaining a knee injury in a heavy tackle.

The Australian avoided ligament damage but suffered a nasty gash to his knee which was later infected, sidelining him for Town's past three matches.

Wagner confirmed Mooy has returned to training and could play some part when the Terriers face Swansea City from 2am AEDT on Sunday morning.

“Aaron has been back in full training for the whole week without any issues,” Wagner said.

“I thought he was strong in his last match against Bournemouth, like the whole group, before he got the injury.

“He was not able to train for two weeks, but then he was back training individually for a week and now a full week in training."

Mooy has endured a busy 18 months with both club and country, playing most of Town's hectic Championship campaign last term which included three play-offs.

He also was part of Australia's Confederations Cup in the middle of 2017 in Russia.

Mooy's form had dipped in January but Wagner said his injury-enforced break may have been beneficial, which is a boost from an Australian perspective ahead of the 2018 World Cup.

“To be honest, he has played so many minutes and so many games that it’s been beneficial for him for his body to take a break," Wagner said.

“He looks very sharp and very good in training and he is a very, very important player for us.”

Wagner added: "I think Aaron is maybe not able to play 90 minutes at the highest level.

“For sure he could cope with less than 90 minutes but this is not something I am focused on, it’s just great to have competition in our squad for this position and others as well.”
