Zullo has not worn the Socceroos shirt since a 3-2 loss to Romania in Malaga, Spain in February 2013.

The fullback has been unlucky in recent years, after accumulating injuries which has frustrated the 28-year-old.

Zullo is currently enjoying season 2016/17 with Sydney and has managed 90 minutes in 16 games out of the 17 he has played.

The Socceroos’ next game is a World Cup qualifier against Iraq in Tehran, Iran on March 23.

And with the Sky Blues full on confidence, along with Socceroo Alex Wilkinson in the squad, Zullo said coach Ange Postecoglou was spoilt for choice in defence.

“It’s Ange’s decision, I think a few years ago he was struggling for a bit of variety and choice and now he’s blooded a few players really well,” Zullo told FourFourTwo.

“I think he’s got a few choices when it comes to defence, but there are definitely guys in our team who are putting their hand up to be chosen.

"I know it’s a cliche, but it really doesn’t get to me.

“All of my concentration is on Sydney and I want to win the title.

"I feel like this is my year and moment, this is our chance to do it, that’s our 100 per cent goal.”

Zullo spoke of the “buzz” around the club where the determination was sky high in Sydney’s four walls and felt this season was a golden opportunity to win a trophy.

After stating his lack of attention and energy focused on the Socceroos, he said he valued wearing the jersey.

He also spoke of his philosophy about living in the present.

“I’ve got amazing memories playing for the Socceroos, they’re memories I’ll keep for the rest of my life,” he said.

“When you’ve been out of the squad for a while, you always have aspirations to play there again, but it stops. I don’t think you can go out there every week, sit and dwell on it. I think you have to know what you’re job is, enjoy and perform.

“You can’t just expect to be chosen. You really have to earn the Socceroos jersey and the only way to do that is to play well for your club. I don’t think about it.

“I just want to go out there and play every single week for our team. My coach here Graham Arnold fills me with confidence and he tells you what an important job you’re doing. That’s what you aim for as a player.”

Sydney face Brisbane Roar away on Friday night, however Zullo will not partake after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season after a spat with Marco Rojas in the Australia Day clash against Melbourne Victory.
