Too much football is never enough. But what a banquet of games we had over the weekend.
With the Socceroos in the wee hours of Saturday morning, a host of UEFA Euro qualifiers, plus, of course, the staple five courses of A-League fare, there was plenty of football for fans to feast on over the past three days.
Once again, Australia's premier division provided some tasty moments for supporters to delight in and chew over. Let's pick the bones of just a few.
Save of the Round
Isn't it brilliant each A-League club has in its last line of defence either an Aussie or a Kiwi custodian? This is, after all, our competition.
And for mine, it's the men between the sticks who are setting some standard right now.
While only two weeks old the A-League Awards blog is starting to see a pattern emerge among some of our top keepers.
Fresh from his nomination last round, Justin Pasfield again earns credit for two marvellous stops. The first from a Matt Thompson strike was simply stunning, before later in the game the keeper ensured he wouldn't leak two with a wonderful effort to deny John Aloisi.
Last week's winner Clint Bolton is again nominated with his instinctive stop frustrating Fury's Gareth Edds.
And finally, Perth Glory stopper Tando Velaphi earns an inaugural nomination for his late save to deny Chris Greenacre stealing a point for the visiting Phoenix.
Just recognition for an awesome start to the season, 25-year-old Pasfield takes the gong for his first flying save.
Goal of the Round
The league's top marksmen took aim to imitate Adelaide's Marcos Flores by winning the award for Goal of the Round over the weekend.
And again, Rini Coolen's players were right up there setting the standard for quality finishes in the league.
Sergio van Dijk earns credit for his free kick effort against Sydney FC. We rarely see goals direct from free kicks in this league, so nicely done, Sergio (even despite the duckers).
Teammate Mathew Leckie wins a nomination for his low angled drive to double the score.
While Robbie Fowler is another contender with his clinical header from Mile Sterjovski's crafty ball a worthy submission from the west.
But (drum roll) the winner is...Mathew Leckie. Initially starting his run from well over halfway, Leckie showed any young player how smart, purposeful movement followed by an accurate, composed strike can deconstruct a defence.
The Yakubu Ayegbeni Medal for a Momentous Miss
While his teammate Isaka Cernak was wasteful from the edge of the area with one effort, North Queensland striker Eugene Sseppuya is the clear winner for this award.
Still, the Ugandan attacker should be proud that after just five rounds he's already ensured his presence in the league will never be forgotten.
His embarrassingly poor strike when clean through on goal may not rival Ayegbeni's against South Korea at the World Cup, but will surely be included in the ten year anniversary DVD of A-League stunners and shockers!
Top Tweets
Here's a selection of some of the more interesting tweets sent to the #aleague hash-tag over the weekend.
GaloisGhost critiqued Sydney FC's defence: "Sydney FC seem to have replaced their defenders with those waving arm inflatable tube men."
rovingrob was perplexed as to Sydney's crowd to congestion ratio: "Nobody here at the SFS. I thought 4 million people lived in Sydney."
While justintickner shared his dismay at Franz Straka's choice of attire: "Very disappointed. I tuned in to see Straka's beige jacket...Never too wet for beige."
Till next week, enjoy the wonderful world of football...
