JUST seven goals in five games combined with uninspiring numbers in the stands made for a terribly average weekend of A-League football - especially in comparison to recent weeks.
For what it's worth, much has been made of the Jets' crowd numbers, and while 6,977 attendees won't do in the (hopefully) long run of the club or league, it should be noted the Novocastrians actually secured the second highest turn-out of the weekend.
Only Brisbane Roar managed to attract more supporters (103 more with 7,080, in fact), while Gold Coast are shambolic - their State League attendance of 2,037 a worrying reflection of the state of play on the glitter strip.
That said, I couldn't agree more with pundits who are calling for more targeted marketing to the grassroots, rather than the masses. I look forward to seeing how and if this develops over coming weeks...
Fans of the Round
I thought it'd be apt to start by rewarding as best I can the fans that got out and supported their club over the weekend.
There's a variety of reasons people don't get to the game, so this is by no means a dig at those who didn't.
It's simply acknowledgement of the people who are doing the best they can to help their respective clubs in adversity and in triumph.
Unfortunately, the budget at FourFourTwo Australia doesn't extend as far to giving you all a prize (don't worry the players don't get any, either).
Goal of the Round
As mentioned in my intro, just seven goals - the same amount as Stuttgart smashed past Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga - in the league this weekend meant the candidates for this prestigious prize were few and far between.
Yet on Friday night Michael Bridges put in a valid entry, his right foot volley a neat piece of play indeed.
But this week's winner is Brazilian Alex Terra, whose left foot bomb having cut in from the right more or less secured the points for Melbourne Heart.
The Yakubu Ayegbeni Medal for a Momentous Miss
It seems A-League players far and wide have learnt of this esteemed award, and are ready and willing to battle Fury's Eugene Sseppuya tooth and nail for its outright ownership.
Sseppuya, of course, was presented the inaugural medal back in round 5 for his clanger of an effort against Melbourne Heart.
But teammate Chris Grossman, Adelaide's Sergio van Dijk and Heart's John Aloisi all want in.
Grossman struck comically against the Victory when time and space were on his side.
Against his former club, van Dijk prodded awkwardly over the bar with the goal at his mercy.
While Aloisi reassured park footballers everywhere it happens to even the best by walloping the woodwork from little more than a yard.
Due to the fact his miss was MAGNIFIED by playing at his old stomping ground, Sergio van Dijk's horror moment takes the cake.
Happens to the best of em', Sergio - just ask Yakubu.
Top Tweets
Finally, let's take a look at some of the more interesting tweets sent to the #aleague hash-tag over the past few days. (If you're on twitter, you can also shoot all your insights to me @BennyONeill)
While not an A-League player anymore, Craig Moore is inherently linked to the competition, and Harsdsy05 had this concerning the former Roar players arrest in Dubai: "Apparently Craig Moore tried to outrun police but was once again far too slow."
While BrotherAmos was - I believe - rather fair in his assessment of A-League dug-outs: "As professional as the #aleague tries to look, having plastic chairs from Bunnings for a players bench fails to help provide this image."
Till next week, enjoy the wonderful world of football...
