FROM good goals to sound saves and incredible individual misses, week 16 of A-League action was jam packed with entertainment for devotees of the competition.

Here's the best (and the worst) of the play...

Goal of the Week

While there were no 30-yard stunners this week, what's certain is goals of beauty can come in many forms.

Indeed, purists would surely have relished Jean Carlos Solórzano's finish against the Jets mid-week, following tidy interplay that has become typical of Brisbane Roar this season.

Marko Jesic's nice right foot strike is a worthy nom, while Ivan Franjic's leveller against Fury makes the grade for its accuracy and punch.

But the winner this week goes to Sydney FC right-back Shannon Cole, who aptly illustrated how movement off the ball can wreak havoc for opposition defences.

Indeed, Cole's run from deep ought to be mandatory viewing for every aspiring player in the country, as the player showed purpose and thought to realise the overlapping opportunity before finishing clinically past Tando Velaphi.

Save of the Week

Four nominations for this weeks top save section as well, and while Tando Velaphi mightn't have been able to do anything to stop Shannon Cole, his first half save from Terry McFlynn certainly impressed.

Gold Coast's inspiring custodian Glen Moss earns a double nomination, with his respective stops from Michael McGlinchey and Mustafa Amini's drives contributing to his teams win in Gosford.

But the winner goes to the keeper on the wrong end of the result in that game, Central Coast's Matthew Ryan.

Leaping to thwart an inspired Andrew Barisic shot from range, young gun Ryan played his part in keeping his side in the hunt for another leveller as the match entered its final stages.

Yakubu Ayegbeni Medal for a Momentous Miss

The award created in honour of the Nigerian strikers incredible miss against South Korea in this years World Cup makes its second appearance in a row after two A-League players evidently decided they wanted in on the action.

First to Tahj Minniecon - a player perhaps suffering from the weight of having been labelled 'Australian footballs next big thing' a couple of seasons ago.

Looking far from that, Minniecon blazed wide with only the keeper to beat, underlining his unfortunate fall from grace since moving to Gold Coast United.

But fortunately for Minniecon, his howler wasn't the worst of the week.

That questionable honour goes to North Queensland Fury's Jason Spagnuolo, who could (and should) have given Fury a comprehensive lead at Suncorp Stadium.

Indeed, Spagnuolo had been one of Fury's best till that moment, but even so, perhaps Franz Straka ought to spend more time on routine finishes at training this week.

Last week, Dyron Daal missed a sitter, while I seem to recall top chances spurned by Eugene Sseppuya and Chris Grossman earlier in the season.

Happens to the best of 'em though, Spags...

FourFourTwo is by the fans, for the fans. What have some of you been saying on #aleague on Twitter? Let's see...

kazonis had this for the FFA suits to think over: "Whilst the general level of play in the #aleague has improved greatly this season, the refereeing has regressed. Poor is putting it mildly." -- Time for pro refs?

thefalsenine shared observations from the bus trip home from Suncorp: "Ppl on bus from Suncorp planning 'I hate Reinaldo' Facebook page. I wonder if they'll start a 'I don't understand football' one too."

While splithorizonwpr offered Becks a word of caution before his big appearance in the Hunter this Saturday: "Another casualty due to the turf. Beckham look out!"

Individual Performer of the Week

Finally, in a new addition to the A-League Awards blog, I thought I'd add section feting an individuals effort over the A-League week.

The first winner of this new section goes to a guy who has quickly developed into one of my favourite players at my club (you're still up there, Labi), Kasey Wehrman.

Wehrman has looked inspired since he was dropped by Culina for his training stoush with Ljubo Milicevic a couple of weeks back, and was especially influential against Brisbane Roar last Wednesday.

From my new position in the nose-bleed section of EAS, one can truly appreciate the scope of Wehrman's passing, and especially, worth ethic.

Keep up the good work mate.
