The A-League held its annual award ceremony this week and some magnificent performances were highlighted - but enough about the WAGS and their glamour. Here I present my own special awards, to key individuals from the Reds, based on their efforts this season.
The Platonic Award - Cristiano - for being in and around the box a lot but never actually managing to score
The Susan Boyle Award - Mathew Leckie - for arriving on the scene out of nowhere and instantly making an impact - you can rightfully 'dream a dream' Matty
The Community Service Award - Robbie Cornthwaite - for, urm, excellence in community service
The John McEnroe Award - goes to Cassio, for the little mid-season dummy spit over not getting chosen to play in 'his' position
The Commonwealth Bank Award - Eugene - for demonstrated ability to regularly save - if it wasn't for his superb efforts between the sticks this season the Reds would have been out of pocket by a lot more than the final tally of 33 goals conceded
The Foo Fighters Award - Michael Marrone - has had a great second half of the season and now rewarded with a call-up to the Socceroos squad. It's just a pity that it will be North Queensland who will be getting the 'best of him' next season and beyond
The Billy Bob Thornton Award - Joe Costa - the 'man who wasn't there' - basically injured all season
The Peter Hoare (Serial Pest) Award - Adam Hughes - unfortunately has the title of the man that collectively the fans seem to dislike the most
The One to Two Weeks Award - Paul Reid - played the odd game here or there but most of the season he seemed to be 'one or two weeks' away from being fit
The Cross Lotto Award - Jamo - lots of crosses in from the left - at times it was a lotto as to where they'd end up - and despite repeated entries, very rarely did we win anything
The Carl Veart Award - goes to the passionate little group of supporters who gathered at the southern end of Hindmarsh Stadium all season, and sang their ditty about dreaming of a team full of Carl Vearts (which I still can't get out of my head by the way)
The Eddie McGuire Award - Aurelio Vidmar - after the season just gone he's definitely the man in the hot seat - let's hope that the ACL brings in the million dollars
