WITH Christmas fast approaching it seems like an opportune time to put together a list of what every Melbourne Victory fan would like to see in their stocking come December 25.
To win their next two away games.Coming off a rather disappointing result against Wellington on the weekend I am sure every Victory fan would like to see 29 points in the bag as we tuck into our Christmas dinners. It won't be easy however as don't have the best of records against both Newcastle and Perth away from home.
A fully fit squad.
With five of our last six games at home, us Victory fans would like to see our best squad on the park as we make a charge for the Premiership. Also with three games in nine days early in the New Year, squad fitness will be paramount. Let's hope they all lay off the pudding and turkey.
A signed contract with Carlos Hernandez's name at the bottom.
With time fast running out on the loan deal with Costa Rican side LD Alajuelense, there would be nothing that Melbourne Victory fans would like more than see Hernandez's future tied to the club for a few more years.
We haven't seen the best of our number one attacking midfielder this season, but memories of that goal against Juventus and his performances in the latter part of last season surely warrant his signing. Its now time for Geoff Lord to splash the cash on our favourite Costa Rican (sorry J.Lo) and spread some Christmas cheer amongst the Victory fans.
News of a potential defensive signing.
With Kevin Muscat nearing retirement, rumours that young Sebastian Ryall will be heading back to his home state, and news that has Thwaite linked to Gold Coast United, the backline of Victory is looking very thin on the ground. With what's left clearly not up to scratch, Gary Cole and Co. definitely need to start sniffing around for some new defenders. Chris Coyne, anyone?
The Colonial Stadium/Telstra Dome/Etihad authorities to stop scheduling other events days before Victory games.
First there was that schmaltzy Dutch violinist, Andre Rieu and his dinky reconstruction of Vienna's Schoenbrunn Castle that left a section of dead grass for a length of the pitch for the recent match against the Mariners.
Now it's Sensation – apparently the world's biggest dance party – being held only days before two crucial clashes against Queensland and Adelaide. One can only imagine what state those ravers will leave the pitch in.
As Andy Harper quite simply put it: "Hell would freeze over before Telstra Dome would allow an Australian Football League game be played on a ground in this condition". The sooner we stop playing at this stadium and move to our purpose-built stadium the better.
What do you want for Christmas?
