WHAT a week!

On a personal front I've just moved house. The foundations of my life have shifted. I've traversed the 'dark tunnel' that is packing boxes and engaging removalists and thankfully reached the other side. There were moments when I thought I'd never make it.

Short term pain for improved residential gain. I now have a dishwasher.

Maybe, just maybe, a similar thought was on Aurelio Vidmar's mind (the short term pain I mean, not the dishwasher bit) when he decided to verbally unload on the unsuspecting media, after Melbourne's 'rape and pillage' 4-0 win against the Reds.

Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Aurelio was obviously very frustrated at the team's performance. Credit to Victory, they played superbly, but at the same time the Reds' efforts were extremely limp. Collectively they were a couple of aces short of a full deck.

His comments could easily be excused as the rantings of a madman. He seemed to be diverting blame and letting off steam. He seemed to be out of control and who could blame him.

I ponder though on whether in fact his comments were actually a little more considered. Perhaps, like me, his foundations have recently shifted.

His claims that political forces have undermined both him and the team were strong and poignant. Only those in the inner sanctum though really know the full truth.

Aurelio's decision to display the dirty laundry may just prove to be a master-stroke. Sometimes coaches need to use a public forum to achieve a desired end. Ernie Merrick has been a case in point recently and I say, all power to him. He's worked things beautifully.

Whatever has been happening at Adelaide United recently, it can only be a positive that it's been exposed. The true test will come against Queensland this weekend but if you can believe what the players are saying, there seems to be a distinct difference in the way they've trained this week.

Whatever Viddie's mindset was, genius or madman, he did the right thing.
