IF ANY of you have ever played Shane Warne Cricket '99, you will know just how important commentary can be: (It's in the air......ammmmmaaaamazing catch!) YouTube Link

Let's face it guys, Andy Harper is no Martin Tyler.

As much as the former Marconi player has been the subject of endless jokes and cackling during my high school years (I think I have entered that stage of my life where I can indeed reflect on them as "my high school years") the tipping point came as I watched a recording of Brendan Gan's strike earlier today.

I should have been able to absorb the rise of a talented football of whom I caught glimpses during the state league season in relative peace.

Alas, my moment of football tranquillity was interrupted by what can only be described as the sound of a baby giraffe being strangled.

Think that's a ridiculous analogy?

This video proves otherwise: YouTube Link

Wait till 1:53 and you should be able to hear the best impersonation of Andy Harper ever given by a living organism.

That's right. Such is my infatuation with Andy Harper's broadcasting skills that I scoured the earth for an adequate tribute and found it in the form of a Giraffa camelopardalis.

Let's assume for a moment that we may one day see a goal of this quality in the A-League: Another YouTube Link

It isn't that hard to believe: replace Cambiasso with Sarkies, Sorin with Thwaite, Ayala with De Vere, Crespo with Allsopp and for argument's sake, Jose Pekerman with John Kosmina – before I continue, I'd just like to apologise to the whole of Argentina for basically insulting every facet of their culture, lifestyle and general existence.

Now, just try to imagine Andy Harper's voice describing to you that passage of history.

Do we dare predict the literary feast that we would be served?

I wouldn't put it past the great man to invent words just for the occasion (I won't even attempt it, for fear of not paying a great enough tribute to the literary brilliance of "Harps").

In fact, I think it wouldn't be too much to ask of Andy to pick one of the species hauled onto Noah's Ark and somehow link it back to Cambiasso/Sarkies' finish. Par example:

I thought I'd just pick out a few Harper classics for the occasion, to bless this blog in its first dedication to the deity that so ably presents to the entire nation its premier football competition:
The moments:

- "The gaggle of media people" (Apparently, we are geese – the plural of "goose", right?)

- "Ohhhh baby!" (Describing Gan's goal)

- "It just gets better and better and better and better" (At some point in the Melbourne Victory match...)

My standard request of the week: Add to this blog your own Andy moment – do you have a favourite?
