EVER since I was introduced to the internet, I’ve often found myself browsing around looking at all sorts of things I don’t really have an interest in.
So when 2008 ticked over to 2009, it didn’t really surprise me that I somehow worked my way to an astrology web site, reading my horoscope for the year ahead.According to this reliable source, as a Libran I can expect 2009 to be a rather positive year. Now, I could go on about how I’m about to find love and strike it rich, but that could make you poor folk of other astrological signs a tad melancholic.
Instead, what fortunes are Newcastle Jets set for this year? Will 2009 be a year of success or failure? Well, that’s where things get a little more complex… what star sign are the Jets exactly?
Newcastle Jets were officially announced as one of the eight inaugural A-League clubs on November 1, 2004, which would make the club a Scorpio.
However it could be argued the Jets truly came into being when they played their first ever A-League match on August 26, 2005, which would make the club a Virgo.
As a Scorpio, the stars say the Jets are in for a largely prosperous 2009.
The guru tells me there will be a “remarkable enhancement in Scorpio’s reputation” with “Scorpio’s fame escalating”. This perhaps points to a successful AFC Asian Champions League campaign, with the club's brand on an international stage garnering more attention this year.
Finances are also set to stay stable with “innovative investments” paying the best dividends in 2009. This may signify the suits signing up another has-been, could-be or never-was and finally striking gold or even GVE and Crooky unearthing a couple of local gems.
Negatively however, I’m hearing Scorpios are set for some family trouble, especially in the latter half of 2009. This possibly indicates weakening crowd figures or membership numbers, or even division in the active fan faction.
For those of you who deem the Jets to be a Virgo, there are also ups and downs.
The guru says that “during 2009, Virgos contacts with senior and influential authorities will improve”. This could mean our sometimes thorny relationship with the FFA will flourish, or our standing within the media will heighten.
The guru also says that for Virgos the “magic of love will flourish for a whole year”. Forget we just got rolled 3-0 across the ditch; there are plenty of enchanting EAS evenings to be had this year!
However there is a word of warning. The stars say that Virgos should “avoid gossiping” so they don’t “spoil their reputation”. Okay, damage is probably already done there, but that seems like good advice in any case. So this year, Jets, please try to keep the rumours to a minimum.
Personally, I reckon the Jets are a Virgo due to the fact a person’s star sign isn’t registered from when their conceived, rather when they first breath air. Round 1, 2005 was when the Jets took their first baby steps into the realm or professional football, and thus can perhaps be considered their birthday.
So while we won’t bring home the Champions League trophy in 2009, I’m predicting a return to form this year. We’ll be competitive in Asia and give a good account of ourselves when the 09-10 A-League returns mid-year.
Best wishes to everyone in 2009!
