IT'S just over the halfway mark of the season and with a break for the final round of World Cup Qualifying it seems like an opportune time to hand out my half-term marks for the season so far.

Glenn Moss

Has found it difficult to fill the rather large gloves of Michael Theoklitos and hasn't filled the fans with all that much confidence. Looked to be regaining his confidence in recent weeks but his efforts against the Mariners last start can't have helped in that regard. C+

Matthew Kemp

Often the first player to cop it when things are going bad, Kemp is currently in career best form and Melbourne fans would be struggling to pick out a bad game this season. Loves getting forward but never forgets his defensive duties. Standout performances against Perth and Newcastle are worthy of note. A

Adrian Leijer

Leijer has slotted back into the team like he had never been away, adding a much-needed solidity to the central defence when Muscat was out through injury. Merrick has been playing him at full-back of late but he is better utilised in the centre of defence. B+

Kevin Muscat

His presence was sorely missed when injured with Melbourne looking a slightly more vulnerable team without him in the squad. Probably is now best suited to a sweeper type role, leaving both Vargas and Leijer to play centrally. B-

Surat Sukha

Quite possibly the recruit of the season so far. After coming off the bench in the second game of the season he has made the right back position his own. Does not seem out of his depth and has coped with the supposed physicality of the A-League with aplomb. Could pave the way for more South East Asian imports in years to come. B+

Rodrigo Vargas

Vargas has been extremely disappointing this season and has never really reached the form of the past three seasons. Too often caught out of position and beaten in the air at set-pieces for my liking. Fortunate to be still in the starting XI. D

Grant Brebner

Had a poor start to the season, but looked to be back to his Season 2 best with his performances against Sydney, Perth and Newcastle. Like many of his team-mates he wasn't at his best against the Mariners. Could very well be his last season for  Victory.  C+

Leigh Broxham

Often frustrating when paired with fellow defensive midfielder, Brebner, Broxham has looked a much better player when he has been given soul responsibility for this position. If he could be more consistent and avoid those rash sliding tackles, fans would be much more appreciative of his efforts. C+

Mate Dugandzic

If he maintains his current form, Dugandzic could very well be the Young A-League of the Year. Extremely quick and creative, he gives Melbourne a lot of pace out on the right. Consistency may be well his only issue. B+

Carlos Hernandez

Quite simply he has been outstanding this season and probably the main reason why Melbourne are close to the top of the table. When on song, no one can get near him, especially at set-pieces and when shooting from distance. My tip for A-League player of the season (but I may be slightly biased). A+

Tom Pondeljak

Has missed large junks of the season through injury and could be another who is playing his last season for Victory. Has rarely made an impact when on the field. D

Ney Fabiano

The Brazilian journeyman has found it difficult to make a starting position his own since the departure of Danny Allsopp and has appeared to slip down the pecking order since the return of Nathan Elasi and the introduction of Suksomkit. Probably will be limited to game time off the bench for the remainder of the season. C-

Sutee Suksomkit

Only three matches into a nine match guest stint, Sutee has impressed many with his performances after going straight into the starting line-up. Struggled a little with the physicality of the Mariners, but he wasn't along in that regard. Could be a possible future full-time signing. B

Archie Thompson

Early in the season was trying a little too hard to please the national selectors. This combined with the departure of long time strike partner, Allsopp, resulted in poor start to the season. However, has been back to his best in recent weeks with his performance against Perth a standout. B+
