IN THE past I have been critical of Chris Grossman, not being able to crack the Queensland Roar first team and all. But hasn’t he been sensational in the youth league?

Okay so the youth league isn’t quite up to the standard of the A-League, but surely nine goals from midfield and a hat trick on the weekend warrants a call up to the first team.

A rumour going round on the Roar forum is that Chris was set to start on the bench in the Roar vs. Glory match, but when Seo got injured and DeVere took his place Ben Griffin was called up as an injury replacement.

Surely if Frank Farina had planned to have Chris Grossman on the bench he would not have played the youth game only hours earlier, so why exactly has he continued to be overlooked?

An article a few weeks back confirmed that Ian Ferguson was trying to sign Chris Grossman. My initial reaction? Great, another A-League reject.

I admit when I first thought this I had not heard of Grossman’s form, just that he was not good enough for Roar’s first team. Since then however, I have followed Grossman’s form closely and have come to the conclusion he would be a great signing.

High expectations were heaped on Grossman when he made his A-League debut two seasons ago, but he has had few chances under Frank Farina. A move to NQ would ensure a fresh start and a chance to prove he can play at an A-League level.

So what should Ferguson do? Sign him up before someone else does of course!

The latest rumour to come out of the club is that Don Matheson has been locked in negotiations for two months to sign current Socceroo Scott Chipperfield.

If it really is true that Chipperfield is keen on joining us, and has been in negotiations for two months, then all I can say is: what were you thinking Don Matheson?!

Chipperfield has been playing for a top club in Switzerland (Basel) for the past eight years, a team who are regularly in the UEFA Cup. The man who scored the winning goal of the game against Uzbekistan would have been a great marquee, and in my opinion would have been a much better option then Jade North.

Though I definitely would have preferred an attack-minded marquee, having a current Socceroo who is always chosen when fit would, in my opinion, be just as good or maybe even better then any other old/unproven/attacking marquee player we could have got.

If we are able to sign him under the cap like it has been suggested then great, but if we lose him to another A-League club then it may prove to be one of the worst decisions in regards to signing players that the A-League has ever seen!
