I banked on most of the first blogs this week being season reviews so rather than give you my list of winners for the season (they’re in the mag on sale March 7 anyway!)… here’s my A-League Top of the Pops for the season 2006/7

In at number 10 would be Terry Butcher with a remake of the Simon and Garfunkle classic “Homeward Bound” which is exactly what he was after around 7 months in charge of Sydney FC. In my opinion he did as good a job as could be expected with the consistent side show of events conspiring against him…last I heard he’s gone to Hollywood to critique Anthony La Paglia’s method acting.

At number 9 is duet from John Kosmina and Ross Aloisi with a cover version of U2s “Sunday Bloody Sunday” as they look back on their Grand Final memories.

Falling one place to number 8 is the New Zealand Knights with their take on the D-Ream classic “Things Can Only Get Better”.

A new entry at number 7 is Claudinho with an interesting version of Simple Minds “Don’t You Forget About Me”…sorry mate…we already have…two out of three ain’t bad though.

Climbing ten places to 6 is the Sydney FC board with their ode to former golden boy Dwight “Nothing Compares 2 U”...the Sydney public seemed to agree with the sentiment staying away in droves.

Gary van Egmond is a new entry at number 5 with the Police classic “Every Little Thing He Does is Magic” which sort of summed his 17 games in charge and 3 contract as reward for his efforts.

Poor Chad Gibson can be found at number 4 with a tear jerking rendition of the “You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling” taking from his forthcoming album “No Armband Required”

Anthony La Paglia is in at number 3 and no-one’s quite clear whether he’s singing of his frustrations as a long distance supporter or the leaky Sydney board room in his big budget video for “I Heard It Through The Grapevine”

Last week’s number 1 is now down one place to number 2 it’s everyone’s favourite golden oldie mercenary Romario with a double A side EP covering the Pretender’s classic “Brass in Pocket” and Dire Straits “Money For Nothing” on the flip side….he came, he saw, he scored a tap in and left with around $1000 for every yard he covered on the pitch.

And straight in at number 1 is Johnny Warren medalist Nick Carle with his emotional plea to Graham Arnold the 80s Human League Classic “Don’t You Want Me” – come one Arnie….the players rate him, the fans rate him…surely he’s worth a spot in the 23 for the Asian Cup?
