Welcome to this month's betting blog, brought to you with our chums from Sportingbet Australia. We're heading into a congested period of football in both Australia and England over the festive period, then the Asian Cup will be upon us in January! Let's hope this month's blog can boost your Xmas present coffers. Good luck!
Xmas Draws
Approaching Christmas and the trends are starting to emerge in the English Premier League. With the top half of the table being completely unpredictable this year, money can be made out of picking draws. 20 teams have played 338 games so far this year, with 112 of these being drawn. That is almost a perfect third of all matches ending in a draw. While this means you won't quite break even, some tactical placements could do you well.
Sunderland, Everton and Birmingham all have nine draws out of their 17 games while Fulham have 10 draws out of their 17 matches.
Fulham look the best value for a draw here as they have drawn 58.82% of their games. With the average draw paying roughly $3.25-3.50, you can earn more money through this than you can by picking an unpredictable winner.
This can also mean big money with multi-bets. With the four aforementioned teams drawing over half their matches, four draws in one round can have you ending up with a big Christmas bonus. Four draws at approximately $3.30 each would earn you a total of $118.59 for every dollar put on. Toss on a cheeky $5 every week on this and eventually it will come good and end up with a handy half grand in your pocket!
Goal-Happy A-League
The A-League is the most unpredictable of almost all leagues. Betting on Brisbane may seem like a sure thing at the moment, but over the past month we saw how an injury to Leckie changed Adelaide's fortunes.
So if the league is so unpredictable to make good money, what can we do? Take a look at the scores of the previous four weeks of the A-League, and we can see that in Week 17, five out of the seven matches had over 2.5 goals; in Week 16, four out of the six had over 2.5 goals; in Week 15, only two had over 2.5 goals but four of the other matches had two goals scored; and finally, in Week 14, six out of the seven games had over 2.5 goals scored.
Scoring over 2.5 goals is priced around $1.80-1.90, so not bad value for a high scoring league. Combine a Brisbane Roar win with a Melbourne game with over 2.5 goals scored and that's a cheeky $3.24, add another +2.5 and that's $6.15 for every dollar. With the price of a pint at the pub on the bet, you can build it into a slab.
Kuwait Here
Who picked Iraq to win the Asian Cup in 2007? Not us. We underestimated the quality of the tournament and ended up with egg on our faces - which might suggest you should ignore this next suggestion, but we'll continue anyway. Rather than jinxing Australia and promoting their $5.50 odd to win the cup we're going with outsiders Kuwait. At $26.00 to win the Asian Cup, they're amazing value for a team that is starting to hit their stride.
You don't believe us? Take a look at form over the past two months. They have beat Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Vietnam, Qatar and Yemen in friendlies after demolishing India 9 - 1 away. They have only lost one match in their last thirteen and that was to Bahrain.
In preparation for the Asian Cup they still have matches against North Korea and Zambia lined up. While it may not be world-beater competition, at least they aren't getting demolished 3-0 to Egypt...
Last month we gave you the vote on what you thought the best bet between our three options - Real Madrid to beat Atletico Madrid and Sporting Gijon in La Liga, Bayern Munich to beat CFR Cluj and Roma in Champions League and Manchester City to beat Birmingham and Manchester United in EPL.
The Madrid giants managed to squeeze out Bayern by just a handful of votes and just as well too, with Real beating rivals Atletico 2-0 ($1.18) and edging past Sporting Gijon 1-0 ($1.27). Nice work team, at $1.50 with $50 on, that's thrown $75 into the coffers!
Now we're on a roll, let keep going and make some real money. Good luck picking your favourite out of these three bets for the month...
