The major trend of this year in Australia has been one of indecision and the inability to claim outright victory whether it is in politics or on the sporting field. It is rather ironic then that the team in the A-League that sports the name of Victory is now suffering from that same malaise. It's as if this team has forgotten how to win.
You've lost that winnin' feeling
For the third time this season we saw Victory throw away a 2-1 lead and walk off the pitch with a 2-2 draw. Instead of what should have been a possible nine points, it is only three and only a disappointing four wins out of seventeen for the season so far.
Whoa, that winnin' feeling
Winning breeds more winning. Brisbane Roar is the current example of a team whose recent efforts showcase a team that just doesn't know how to lose (hopefully that ends this Friday night). Contrast that to Victory, whose sporadic form means that there has been no momentum to the season whatsoever resulting in an extreme lack of confidence within the team.
You've lost that winnin' feeling
Against both Central Coast and Wellington, there have been periods of the match where Victory have looked unstoppable and few teams in the league would have done well to keep up with them. And you thought that the team has turned the corner and that winnin' feeling will return. But the only problem being is that those periods of unstoppability haven't resulted in putting the game beyond the reach of the opposition and taking away all three points. Then comes a silly mistake and the game is gone.
Now it's gone...gone...gone...wooooooh.
So how do we regain that winnin' feeling? With the attacking aspect of our game seeming to be back on track I guess the most obvious problem is at the back. If we can solve that problem I think that winnin' feeling won't be too far away. The imminent return of both Matthew Kemp and Surat Sukha from injury will certainly provide Ernie Merrick with an interesting conundrum as he tries to fit both of them in with the triumvirate of Muscat, Leijer and Vargas.
And if we don't start winning again I may have to resort singing this little refrain and no one, and I mean NO ONE wants that to happen.
Victory (Victory), Victory (Victory),
I beg of you please...please,
We need a win (We need a win),
We need a win (We need a win),
So bring it on back (So bring it on back),
Bring it on back (so bring it on back).
