So Saturday was the night of the Rampaging Rangas. The Glory boys had no answer for the silky smooth moves of Little Mac and Ronald McDonald Jr (McGlichey and Amini respectively). These two guys ran the mid field with exceptional precision, touch and vision. This teamed with the rock solid back four that has been one of the main foundations of the Mariners run this season, things are starting to look up. However I still have this feeling that there is something missing from the Mariners becoming a real force in the A-League. It's like that pinch of salt that just brings out all the flavours.

So what is that all important missing ingredient? I thought about the thing that everyone likes to say is never thought about. The Bench. But when I look at the team on the park on Saturday night much of it was the players that would often be on the bench for the Mariners so I think the depth and bench for the Mariners in general is quite strong. So is it the older guys who were missing this weekend, much has been said about Hutch and his poor form against Roar. Well I think the game on the weekend showed that this is part of a weakness for the squad but Hutch would certainly add steel and strength to a defensive mid role and provide backup for Griffiths if his form slumps. I think the biggest thing missing is variation in the two guys at the front of the formation.

Arnie is running a classic 4-4-2 with a midfield diamond. This is a great attacking formation but I think that the problem is the two men in our formation are both target men (at best). They are both tall, strong and will run all day so the best thing for the Mariners to do with these two is drill the ball into the box and hope they can get on the end of it. But with Amini and Perez (wow, I had to stop and think about his name for a second there) sitting in behind the front two the Mariners would be wasting a very effective attacking weapon by running the majority of the offence down the flanks.

Arnie needs to look at mixing the style of our strikers, however the other strikers on the bench do not offer too much more for him. Disco Nik has seen his best days and is just a slower and less willing version of McBreen and Simon. Kwasi has the ball skills and trickery to offer a new dimension for the front two but seems to always lack the composure and killer instinct in front of goal.

So what should Arnie do?

I think he needs to go out to the open market find himself a.........RED HEADED STRIKER!

The Mariners need a third bluey to complete the trilogy of Rampaging Ranagas.

Who should the Mariners go out and buy to fill the slot?

Andy Campbell
Steve Jones
Nick Chadwick
Dave Kitson

We need a more complete list.

Please readers I need your help to compile a list of redheaded strikers that Arnie can take as a shopping list for the coming transfer window. If only we can secure a genuine blood nut that can find the back of the net we would see Wilko raise that toilet seat at the GF for many years to come.
