As the race for finals football intensifies at an electrifying rate, one aspect of the table throws a dark shadow over our chances of qualifying for an inaugural appearance: our goal difference.
There is no greater feeling when you're sitting comfortably up in the stands, watching on as your club unleashes shot after shot past a hapless opposition keeper, rippling the yellow net as the scoreboard ticks over.
Unfortunately for us, this hasn't happened and on ten occasions (5 home / 5 away), we've failed to score.
For a third of the season, we've completely missed the onion bag and have not only given our match day opponents a great chance to snatch a win, but have also let the rest of the pack jump above us on the goal difference table.
We've had some memorable wins, but statistically, our joint most impressive result came last Sunday as the Club edged out a determined North Queensland 2:0.
While this was a fantastic match to watch (as a Heart supporter) and a must win contest, it's hardly a result worthy of the 'biggest win' tag.
There has only been one occasion where we've scored more than two, this result coming against North Queensland (November 10) in Townsville where we struck three past a furious Justin Pasfield but conceded two.
Looking at the table in Week 21, you'll notice that every club in the top six has a rather healthy and robust positive goal difference.
Every club that is, except for us.
Our results have seen us score 24 goals and concede 33, leaving us with an embarrassing difference of negative nine; at this stage, it's hardly a total worthy of finals football (especially considering we've played more games than the majority of the competition).
Mathematically, every club can still qualify for the finals series, making this season's competition an exhilarating race for all involved!
But with only five points separating 6th through to 8th with a handful of matches remaining, every goal counts and could ultimately result in comfortably qualifying or narrowly missing out come February.
