So, lets get a few things straight before we start, I love football. No seriously, I know that you do too, but I really love football.

If it was a choice between the Merseyside Derby or a family get together, I know what I would do. If it was a top of the table A-League fixture too, it would be no contest. If it was the Socceroos versus Kyrgyzstan away, in Bishkek as part of the warm up to the Asian Cup, I know I would watch it.

It's the whole package for me, the fans and hype, the skill and the pace, the glory and the heartbreak and yes even though there are non-believers who can't understand why we get so worked up when the local home fixture doesn't go our way, or disappointed when our star under 14 can't play in that crucial season defining away fixture due the fact that they are going on a family holiday to the Gold Coast.

My name is Scott Dickson and I have been coaching for nearly 20 years and in that time I have coached school teams to State Finals, fell in love with Coerver Coaching, won two local A Grade Premierships, enjoyed the Speed, Agility and Quickness push, rolled out the local Telstra Football Anytime and Coca Cola Topshots programs (only to see them disappear), coached a local Women's side to back-to-back Senior Premierships, flew over 1295 kilometres to get my Coerver Licence, set up my own football radio show, established my own Community Football Development Program (sounds good doesn't it?), passed my Premier Skills workshop, met the National Futsal Coach, and passed my Futsal Licence and the list goes on. Junior Licence, Youth Licence, Senior Licence, Asian C Licence phew but hey, don't tell me I'm obsessed with the beautiful game.

A football tragic but not obsessed. My blog will be simple to follow and easy to understand, kind of like Dr Phil with a touch of Jamie Oliver thrown in.

I was born into football, June 21 1970, the World Cup Final Mexico City Brazil versus Italy. It was a big game, Pele, Carlos Alberto, Roberto Rivelino, they were a good side and my Dad loved football and well, how can you compare a hospital waiting room to that. He couldn't, so after a short cab ride to the Royal Infirmary, I was born. When he arrived at the hospital, shortly after I did, he mistook my jaundice for I don't know what, my dark crop of hair for something else and my Mum's excitement for who knows when he suggested Pele Dickson to the matron.

Now I know Pele would have put some unwanted pressure on young lad growing up and expectations would have been high, but surely it would have carried some weight with it.

The state body makes a mistake with your accreditation and you give them a call "Hi its Pele here, you seem to have made a mistake." You ring up to book A-League tickets and "Hi yes its Pele, can I book two seats near the halfway line."

So that's what can you expect from this blog, the truth. None of that highfalutin, warm and fuzzy stuff, this is backs to wall, 1 nil down ten minutes to go, push your centre back up stuff.

To me football is like school, some have got it, some will pick up papers at break time and go on to great things, some will never read at home and would rather skip a lesson than take the risk of being asked a question.

For me, the quality of the coach is the most important thing and like when you where at school, there is a huge difference from one coach to the next.

The big question is, how good are you?
