Well that was all a bit . . . mmmm . . . aaah . . . ummm . . . all a bit meh I guess. Yes, it was great to get our first three points of the season, and yes it was great to see Robbie Kruse score his first goal of the season, and yes it was great that we kept our first clean sheet of the season, but apart from all that it was indeed all a bit of a meh kind of game.
Last season, clashes between Melbourne Victory and Gold Coast United always gave us something to talk about. First there was the "controversial" Kevin Muscat penalty retake in Round 8, which now has me wondering where Bas van den Brink was on Sunday.
Then there was Melbourne's consummate thrashing of an undermanned Gold Coast United in Round 16 that saw Victory play some of their best ever football in front of their home fans. And finally, there was Round 25 where the boys from Robina Park took revenge for their early loss on home turf and Steve Pantelidis took out Robbie Kruse behind play.
Even when compared to our three previous matches this season which all had their talking points, this match had nothing of the sort. Even the introduction of the aforementioned Steve Pantelidis after 70 minutes didn't do anything to enliven proceedings.
Ben Williams even did his job with reasonable efficiency, so nothing to complain about there either. Kevin Muscat also had little to complain about apart from falling foul of a cheeky trip from Gold Coast youngster, James Brown who would be wise watch his step next time the two teams shall meet. Like an elephant, Kevin Muscat never forgets.
So I guess, there is actually nothing wrong with an uneventful game (especially if your team wins), but sometimes it's nice to have those heart palpitations, sport fingernails that have seen better days and a voice that resembles a whisper. On Sunday it just didn't get to that point, not even close.
So there you have it. I think I may have just given you a Seinfeld blog, a blog about nothing at all.
