City authorities expect up to 60,000 spectators to attend the match between Iran and Morocco at the St. Petersburg Stadium on Friday, the city's Deputy Governor Igor Albin said Thursday.
“Tomorrow, Morocco will play Iran at the retractable pitch of our stadium, and, according to the forecasts of FIFA experts, [we] expect up to 60,000 spectators,” Albin said.
Albin added that an average of 44,000 spectators had been attending Zenit St. Peterburg's home matches at the 67,000-seater St. Petersburg Stadium last season, with the club breaking attendance records in Russian football.
The arena will host four group stage matches, a Round of 16 game, a semi-final and the third place match during the World Cup.
