Former Liverpool winger Albert Riera reckons the Spain have a 65% chance of winning their round of 16 clash with World Cup hosts Russia.
The game will take place at Moscow's Luzhniki stadium on Monday morning AEST.
"At the moment, I think the odds are 65-to-35," said Riera, who won 16 caps for La Roja between 2007 and 2009.
"The possession will be roughly at the same level. And there is logic to that - the less possession you have, the fewer opportunities you have to score."
He added that the hosts were playing well at the tournament, despite their 3-0 defeat to Uruguay in their final Group A match.
