"We are clarifying that our rule is simple: politics and sport are separate. We create all necessary conditions to ensure a safe stay for fans from all the countries, regardless of what is occurring in our bilateral relations," Nesterenko said adding that Russia has been working in cooperation with the diplomatic missions of all the countries participating in the tournament.

The ambassador also said that all Russian defense and law enforcement agencies were engaged in dealing with security issues.

"All stadiums, cities, hotels are ready. A cultural program for the guest of the tournament has been prepared. We really hope that all goes well," Nesterenko added.

Russia's first-ever World Cup will be held between June 14 and July 15 at 12 arenas in 11 cities across the country. Teams will play in Moscow, Kaliningrad, Saint Petersburg, Volgograd, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, Saransk, Rostov-on-Don, Sochi, and Yekaterinburg.
