A total of 40,842 fans attended the World Cup match between Japan and Colombia, which took place in the Russian city of Saransk on Tuesday, FIFA said via the tournament's official Twitter account on Tuesday.
The Group H match was held at the 42,000-seater Mordovia Arena and ended in a 2-1 victory to the Japanese side, with Colombia being reduced to ten men after midfielder Carlos Sanchez was shown a straight red card just three minutes into the game.
Japanese princess Hisako Takamado, who has become the first member of the Japanese Imperial Family to visit Russia since World War I, also attended the match to support her national team.
The arena will host another two group-stage games between Iran and Portugal on 25June and between Panama and Tunisia three days later.
