De Wever, who is the leader of the New Flemish Alliance, a Belgian right-wing political party, headed the trade and economic mission of Antwerp that visited Moscow and St. Petersburg ahead of the World Cup.

The 2018 World Cup kicked off on 14 June and will continue until 15 July, with the matches set to be played in 11 cities across Russia. Belgium face Panama, Tunisia and England in Group G.
