Two football fans from Argentina, who arrived in Russia for the World Cup, were detained by local police on Monday after launching a drone in Red Square in Moscow.
Operating drones in Red Square is prohibited for security reasons.
"Two Argentinian citizens born in 1986 and 1983 respectively, who arrived in Moscow for the FIFA World Cup, were detained yesterday evening. They were launching a quadcopter in Red Square,” said a police source.
He added that the fans were released after filling out a report while the drone and the case file were sent to the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency for further investigation. The Argentinians are subject to a fine of 5,000 rubles (AUD $108).
The Argentine Embassy in Moscow say they have no information about the detention of its citizens so far.
