MOSCOW, June 7 (Sputnik) - Arsenal midfielder Mesut Oezil will not play for Germany in their final FIFA World Cup warm-up match against Saudi Arabia on Friday, the team said Thursday.
Ozil scored Germany's only goal in their 2-1 defeat by Austria on Saturday but sustained a minor knee injury and has not trained with the team since.
"As a precaution, Mesut Ozil didn't take part in final training today, completing running exercises instead. He is out of the Saudi Arabia game with a minor bruise to his left knee," the German team said via Twitter.
The 29-year-old who lifted the 2014 World Cup as part of Germany's squad has been capped 90 times and scored 23 goals for the national team.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup will be held between June 14 and July 15 at 12 stadiums across 11 Russian cities. Title-holders Germany will play Mexico, Sweden and South Korea in Group F while Saudi Arabia will face hosts Russia, Egypt and Uruguay in Group A.
