MINSK, July 14 (Sputnik) - Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko will attend the 2018 FIFA World Cup final at the invitation of his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, presidential spokeswoman Natalia Eismont said on Saturday.
"Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko will visit Moscow at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin and will attend the closing ceremony and the final match of the World Cup at the Luzhniki Stadium," Eismont said as quoted by the BelTA news agency.
The spokeswoman added that the president will support "the beautiful and high-performance football" in the first place.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicked off on June 14 and will come to a close on Sunday, with France facing Croatia in the final, which will be played at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium.
