MOSCOW, July 12 (Sputnik) - Belgium midfielder Youri Tielemans said on Thursday that playing in the World Cup third place play-off against England in St. Petersburg on Saturday would be “a matter of honor” for his team.
Belgium, who lost 1-0 to France in the semi-finals on Tuesday, will take on England, who were defeated 2-1 by Croatia in the second semi-final on Wednesday, in the third-place match in St. Petersburg on Saturday.
“The third place play-off will be a matter of honor. Of course we are disappointed by our defeat in the semi-final, but after this season I feel good. I think we played well at this World Cup, we did well as a team. Of course I want to play [on the team in the match] against England, but it’s up to the coach. We are ready to fight for the victory in the third place play-off,” Tielemans told journalists.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicked off on June 14, with the final set to be held at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium on Sunday.
