ST. PETERSBURG, July 13 (Sputnik) - All of the FIFA World Cup stadiums in Russia are "simply fantastic" but the arena in St. Petersburg is the most beautiful one, Belgium midfielder Axel Witsel said on Friday.
"For me the [St. Petersburg] stadium is magnificent. I didn't have an opportunity to play there with Zenit, because I had left [the club] right before that. But the stadiums in general where we played were simply fantastic. And it's not because I played at Zenit in St. Petersburg but I think that the Zenit Stadium [St. Petersburg Stadium] is the most beautiful," Witsel told journalists.
The 29-year-old played for the Russian Premier League club Zenit from 2012 to 2017 making a total of 180 appearances and scoring 22 goals.
Belgium suffered a 1-0 defeat to France in the semi-finals on Tuesday and are now set to face England, who they beat 1-0 during the group stage, in the third place match in St. Petersburg on Saturday.
The 1998 World Cup winners France will face first-time finalists Croatia at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium on Sunday.
