ST. PETERSBURG, July 13 (Sputnik) - Belgium midfielder Axel Witsel said on Friday that he would prefer not to come back to St. Petersburg for the third place play-off of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, as he would have preferred to play in the final.
Belgium will face England in the third place play-off in St. Petersburg on Saturday.
"Of course we wouldn't like to return here [St. Petersburg], but that's the way it is. But we have another objective, to finish third. We are taking this match seriously, in the same way as we did in all the previous matches till now. Because we want to finish third for our country, for our supporters and for ourselves," the 29-year-old midfielder said.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicked off on June 14 with the final showdown between France and Croatia set to take place at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium on Sunday.
