Panama defender and captain Roman Torres told Sputnik on Monday that his team failed to get back into the game after conceding early in the second half of the World Cup match.
Panama lost 3-0 to Belgium in their first World Cup match at Sochi's Fisht Stadium on Monday.
"We played a good match. We were very disciplined, leaving no space for out opponents. But we missed getting an early goal in the second half. Not just a goal, but the fantastic goal," Torres said.
The 32-year-old captain added that Panama had chances to equalize the scoring.
"It was a very emotional day. It is a historical moment to sing a national anthem," he said.
Panama will later face the two other Group G opponents, England and Tunisia.
