ormer FIFA President Sepp Blatter says he hopes that the video assistant referee (VAR) system "will not disturb" the final of the World Cup.
The tournament in Russia is the first World Cup where VAR is being used as a tool to help match officials avoid possible mistakes by allowing them to review video replays of game episodes, and has been frequently called into action.
"Congratulations to the World Cup finalists: France one of the favorites, Croatia the biggest surprise in the history. Hope, that VAR will not disturb the final," Blatter said via his official Twitter account.
Prior to the 2018 World Cup, the 82-year-old said that using VAR at the tournament was "not very clever."
The final, pitting 1998 champions France against first-time finalists Croatia, will take place in Moscow on Monday morning at 1:00am AEST.
