Five-time former World Cup winners lost to Belgium 2-1 in Kazan on Saturday (AEST) and were eliminated from the tournament, while the Red Devils progressed to the World Cup semi-finals.

While Belgium led by two goals by the end of the first half, Augusto pulled one back for his side in the 76th minute reviving Brazil's hope of drawing the game in normal time and having another 30 minutes to play in extra time.

"We deserved a draw because we've created plenty of goal-scoring chances, we attacked quite well," Augusto said post-match.

"We were trying very hard and were able to score. Everyone saw that we had lots of chances but that's life... After the first goal, we hoped that we still had time but it was not meant to be>"

The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicked off on June 14 and will continue until July 15, with the final set to be held at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium.
