"This quarter-final match lived up to the fans' expectations, as the teams showed an outstanding, dramatic performance, three goals were scored, and we'll long remember the Brazilian fans' festivities in the city's streets... This game... became kind of a final flourish for us," Leonov said.

The Kazan Arena hosted its last match of this summer's tournament on Friday, with a sell-out crowd of 42,873 supporters watching Belgium beat Brazil 2-1 in their quarter-final match. Six World Cup matches, including two knockout-stage games, were also hosted there.

"Kazan hosted six matches of the main sports tournament in the history of our country and... we managed to do everything at the highest level. All the teams that have visited our city, thousands of fans from all over the world, and all the guests of the Tatarstan capital [Kazan] were happy with the way they were welcomed in Kazan," Leonov added.

Leonov wished the Russian squad success in their World Cup quarter-final match against Croatia which will be held in Sochi on Saturday.

"The Fan Fest will be working until the final game, all the matches of the tournament will be broadcast there. Kazan is happy to be a part of a great football festival... We'll be rooting for our team, for the Russian squad! They need our support!" Leonov said.
