The UK Embassy in Moscow is in contact with Russian authorities over the situation with a UK citizen, who was detained by the Russian police after an incident on a train.
Earlier on Monday, the Reuters news agency reported that a UK national who was traveling to a FIFA World Cup match in the Russian city of Volgograd was forced off the train and detained by the police after "a dispute with a police officer."
“Our staff are in contact with the local authorities regarding a British man who was detained following an incident on a train in Russia. We stand ready to offer him assistance,” said an embassy employee.
Volgograd is set to host its first FIFA World Cup match later on Monday with England facing Tunisia at the 45,000-seater Volgograd Arena.
